Bombay High Court: Live-Streaming Only with Judges’ Consent
The Bombay High Court has clarified that court proceedings will be live-streamed only if the presiding judge or judges of that courtroom give their consent.
In a notice issued on November 10, 2025, the Court explained that under Rule 5.1 of the Bombay High Court Rules for Live Streaming and Recording of Court Proceedings, 2025, live-streaming is not an automatic process—it can take place only with the explicit approval of the concerned judge(s).
The notice further designates the presiding judges of each courtroom as the “Designated Officers” under Rule 7.3. This means only they have the authority to grant access to copies of live-streamed recordings. Anyone wishing to obtain such recordings must submit an application in the prescribed format mentioned in Schedule III of the Rules.
Additionally, the Court clarified that recordings of hearings will be stored or preserved only when the Court specifically orders it, as stated in Rule 7.4 of the Rules.
