Priya Kapur Denies Moving Sunjay Kapur’s Money Abroad in Delhi High Court Hearing
The legal dispute over the Will of businessman Sunjay Kapur saw fresh developments on Wednesday before the Delhi High Court. During the hearing, his wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur, strongly denied allegations that she had shifted any of his assets outside India or hidden information from the court.
Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar, appearing for Priya, responded to the accusations made by her mother-in-law, Rani Kapur, who claimed that Priya had concealed the true value of Sunjay Kapur’s estate. Nayar told the court that a complete list of Sunjay’s assets had already been submitted, and every transaction was fully disclosed. He emphasised that no funds were transferred abroad, calling the allegations “baseless and reckless.”
Nayar also countered the claim that Sunjay Kapur was earning ₹60 crore annually from a single company. He explained that Sunjay, who served as a director in AIPL for the year 2023–24, received a salary of ₹10 crore and a one-time bonus of ₹50 crore. After ₹23.5 crore was deducted as TDS, he received ₹36.5 crore, out of which ₹28.5 crore was used to buy properties in London.
He further pointed out that Rani Kapur receives ₹21.5 lakh every month from AIPL and that all her personal expenses are still being taken care of just as they were when Sunjay was alive. “So much for the claim of step-daughterly treatment,” he remarked.
The submissions were made before Justice Jyoti Singh, who is hearing an interim application filed by the two children of actor Karisma Kapoor. The children have sought to restrain Priya Kapur from creating any third-party rights over their father’s assets while the dispute over the Will continues.
In the main suit, Karisma Kapoor’s children have accused their stepmother Priya Kapur—Sunjay’s third wife—of forging his Will and attempting to take full control of his property. The Will in question is dated March 21, 2025, and allegedly leaves Sunjay’s entire personal estate to Priya.
The court also heard Nayar’s response to the allegation that Sunjay Kapur had removed Priya from her position as director because of marital issues. He clarified that Priya had voluntarily resigned from AIPL in May 2023 and that the couple had only exchanged responsibilities within their companies.
Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani began presenting his rejoinder on behalf of Karisma Kapoor, and the arguments will continue on Thursday.
