Yatin Oza Elected President of Gujarat High Court Advocates’ Association

Yatin Oza has been elected as the new President of the Gujarat High Court Advocates’ Association (GHCAA) after a closely watched election. He won the post by defeating his nearest rival, Babubhai Mangukiya, with a margin of 247 votes.

After the results were announced, Oza said that the Bar had shown faith in him and he now carries the responsibility of living up to that trust. Several candidates were in the race for the President’s post, including the outgoing President Brijesh Trivedi and other senior members of the Bar.

The elections also saw multiple candidates contesting for other key posts such as Vice President and General Secretary, reflecting active participation by advocates of the Gujarat High Court.

Oza’s return to a leadership position is notable given his past legal troubles. In 2020, his senior advocate designation was withdrawn after he made allegations against the High Court Registry, following which contempt proceedings were initiated. He was later found guilty and fined, with simple imprisonment till the rising of the court.

Two years later, a judgment of the Supreme Court of India restored his senior designation for a limited period. However, related proceedings are still pending, and the top court has sought an affidavit from him expressing remorse for his earlier remarks.

Despite this background, Oza has now secured the mandate of the Gujarat High Court Bar, marking a significant development in bar association politics.
