Centre Appoints Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo as Chief Justice of Patna High Court

The Central government has officially notified the appointment of Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo as the new Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.

Justice Sahoo is currently serving as a judge of the Orissa High Court. His name was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium during its meeting held on December 18, 2025. Along with his appointment, the Collegium also proposed the elevation of several other High Court judges as Chief Justices across the country.

Born on June 5, 1964, Justice Sahoo completed his law degree from Cuttack Law College. He enrolled as an advocate with the Orissa State Bar Council in 1989 and began his legal career in Cuttack. Over the years, he built a strong reputation in the legal field.

In July 2014, he was elevated as a judge of the Orissa High Court. With his appointment as Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, he now takes on a key leadership role in the judiciary of Bihar.
