Centre Appoints Justice A Muhamed Mustaque as Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court
The Central Government has officially notified the appointment of Justice A Muhamed Mustaque as the new Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court. The decision follows the recommendation made by the Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on December 18.
Justice Mustaque will take charge as the Chief Justice from the date he formally assumes office. At present, Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai is serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court.
Born on June 1, 1967, Justice Mustaque is a native of Kannur, Kerala. He completed his law degree from VB College of Law, Udupi, and later pursued an LLM in Labour Law from Mahatma Gandhi University. He enrolled as an advocate in 1989 and practised mainly in Kannur before various courts and statutory authorities.
Over the years, Justice Mustaque also undertook specialised international courses in space and telecommunication law, private international law, e-commerce, and intellectual property law. He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Kerala High Court in 2014 and became a Permanent Judge in 2016. He also served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court in 2024.
The Sikkim High Court is currently the smallest High Court in the country, with only two judges in position. With Justice Mustaque’s appointment, the court will now function at its full sanctioned strength of three judges.
