P Sreekumar Appointed First Additional Solicitor General for Kerala High Court

The appointment of Senior Advocate P Sreekumar as Additional Solicitor General (ASG) for the Kerala High Court marks a significant development in the Centre’s legal representation framework in the State.

The Central government has appointed P Sreekumar as ASG for a period of three years, with effect from March 23, 2026. The notification was issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice through a gazette published on March 27.

This appointment assumes importance as it is the first time that an Additional Solicitor General has been designated specifically for the Kerala High Court. The post was recently created to strengthen the representation of the Union government before the High Court.

Until now, matters involving the Central government in High Courts were primarily handled by Deputy Solicitors General. The introduction of an ASG position at the State level indicates a shift towards more structured and senior legal representation in important matters.

P Sreekumar brings with him more than three decades of legal experience. He began his practice in 1994 and has appeared before the Supreme Court of India as well as several High Courts across the country.

In 2024, he was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Kerala High Court, recognising his standing and contribution to the legal profession. His areas of practice include arbitration, education law, family law, and both civil and criminal litigation.

Over the years, he has also advised and represented several public bodies and institutions, adding to his experience in handling complex and high-stakes legal matters.

The creation of the ASG post for the Kerala High Court and Sreekumar’s appointment to the role are expected to enhance the efficiency and consistency of the Central government’s legal representation in the State.
