Hyderabad Jail Opens Doors For Citizens To Experience Prison Life for Rs 2000

Hyderabad’s Chanchalguda Central Prison has introduced a unique prison tourism initiative called “Feel the Jail,” allowing ordinary citizens to voluntarily experience prison life for a limited period by paying a fee.

Under the programme, visitors can choose to stay inside specially designated prison cells for either 12 hours or 24 hours. The 12-hour experience costs ₹1,000, while the 24-hour package is priced at ₹2,000.

Participants will reportedly follow routines similar to inmates, including eating prison-style meals and spending time inside jail barracks. The initiative aims to give citizens a realistic understanding of prison conditions and daily life inside correctional institutions.

The programme was inaugurated by Shiv Pratap Shukla along with a new jail museum established at the State Institute of Correctional Administration in Chanchalguda.

This is not the first such initiative in Telangana. Earlier, the historic Sangareddy Jail had also launched a similar “Feel the Jail” experience for visitors interested in understanding prison life. Reports indicate that the latest initiative was introduced after the Heritage Jail Museum in Sangareddy collapsed a few years ago.

The initiative has drawn attention online due to its unusual concept of allowing citizens to experience incarceration voluntarily without any criminal offence.
