Advocate Rohit Sud has been elected as the new President of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association after the results of the executive body elections were declared late Friday night.
The polling for the Bar Association elections took place on Friday, with advocates casting their votes for various office bearer positions. The counting process continued till around midnight before the final results were announced.
Rohit Sud secured 1,483 votes in the presidential election. He defeated Senior Advocate Parminder Singh Sekhon by a margin of 96 votes. Sekhon received 1,387 votes in the closely watched contest.
The election for the post of President witnessed participation from six candidates. The results drew significant attention within the legal community, as the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association remains one of the prominent bar bodies in the country.
In the election for Vice-President, Advocate Ashish Bishnoi emerged victorious with 1,856 votes. He defeated Advocate Sunil Agnihotri, who secured 1,346 votes.
The association also elected other members of its executive body. Advocate Parampreet Singh Bajwa, popularly known as Harry, won the post of Secretary with 1,827 votes.
Dr Kirandeep Kaur was elected as Joint Secretary after securing 1,321 votes. Advocate Ashish Rana won the Treasurer post with 1,231 votes.
For the position of Lady Member, Advocate Kamla Malik secured victory with 1,856 votes. She defeated Dr Rinki K Singhania, who received 1,684 votes in the election.
The newly elected office bearers are expected to take charge of the Bar Association’s activities and represent the interests of advocates practising before the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the coming term.
