Abetment to Suicide Case Against Ola CEO Now Under CCB Probe, Karnataka HC Told

The Karnataka High Court in Subrat Kumar Dash & Others AND State of Karnataka & ANR has been informed that the investigation into the abetment to suicide case filed against Ola Electric CEO Bhavish Aggarwal and others is now being handled by the Central Crime Branch (CCB), Bengaluru.

Justice Mohammad Nawaz recorded this submission on December 5 after the State’s counsel told the Court that the case has been transferred to the CCB for further investigation.

Earlier, the High Court had asked the police to update it on the status of the investigation, including whether the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report on the alleged suicide note had been received. The government informed the Court that the FSL report is still awaited.

The Court clarified that its earlier direction to the police, asking them not to harass the petitioners, will continue. At the same time, the petitioners have been directed to cooperate with the investigation. The matter has now been listed for further hearing on January 21, 2026.

The FIR in the case was registered on October 6 at the Subramanyapura Police Station. It was based on a complaint filed by Ashwin Kannan, the brother of the deceased K Aravind. According to the complaint, Aravind allegedly died by suicide after consuming poison.

The complaint claims that Aravind left behind a suicide note accusing his workplace of harassment and alleging non-payment of salary dues and other benefits. Based on these allegations, the police registered a case under Section 108 (abetment of suicide) read with Section 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

The accused persons have approached the Karnataka High Court seeking to quash the FIR. They have also sought interim protection, requesting the Court to stay the investigation and restrain the police from taking any coercive action against them.
