Anjana Om Kashyap Files Rs 2 Crore Defamation Suit Against Khan Sir In Delhi High Court

In Anjana Om Kashyap & Anr v. Faisal Khan & Ors, journalist Anjana Om Kashyap and TV Today Network have approached the Delhi High Court by filing a ₹2 crore defamation suit against popular educator Faisal Khan, widely known as Khan Sir. The matter is scheduled to be heard before a vacation bench of the High Court.

The suit has been filed over remarks allegedly made by Khan Sir concerning Kashyap’s coverage of “star teachers.” According to the plaintiffs, several statements made during the controversy were defamatory and harmed the reputation of both the journalist and the media network.

Kashyap and TV Today Network have sought the removal of content from social media platforms that allegedly contains offensive and defamatory remarks. The suit specifically refers to terms such as “bikau patrakar,” “chatukar,” “dalaali,” and “fake news dukaan,” which were allegedly used against the journalist.

The dispute traces its origins to a live discussion concerning the NEET examination system. During the debate, Kashyap reportedly criticised certain online educators, describing them as individuals focused on attracting views and misleading students. The comments triggered reactions from several quarters, including Khan Sir.

Following the exchange, Khan Sir allegedly made statements targeting Kashyap and her reporting. The plaintiffs contend that these remarks crossed the limits of fair criticism and amounted to defamation, causing reputational damage.

Through the suit, the journalist and the media organisation have requested judicial intervention for the removal of the disputed content and compensation of ₹2 crore for the alleged harm caused by the statements.

The matter is expected to come up before a vacation bench headed by Justice Neena Bansal Krishna. The Court may examine whether the impugned remarks constitute protected speech or amount to actionable defamation under law.

The case highlights the growing number of legal disputes arising from public commentary on digital and social media platforms, particularly where journalists, influencers and educators engage in debates involving matters of public interest.
