Centre Clears Appointment of Justice Revati Mohite Dere as Meghalaya HC Chief Justice
The Union government has approved the appointment of Justice Revati Mohite Dere as the new Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court. She is currently a judge of the Bombay High Court and is its second senior-most judge.
This appointment comes after the transfer of the present Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, Justice Soumen Sen, to the Kerala High Court.
The decision follows the recommendation made by the Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on December 18, 2025. The announcement was made public by Union Minister for Law and Justice (Independent Charge) Arjun Ram Meghwal through a post on X.
Justice Dere was born in Pune and completed her law degree from Symbiosis Law College. Before becoming a judge, she practised for several years before the Bombay High Court and also worked as a prosecutor for the Government of Maharashtra.
She was appointed as an additional judge of the Bombay High Court in 2013 and became a permanent judge in 2015. Since then, she has continued to serve at the Bombay High Court without being transferred. Her elevation as Chief Justice marks a significant step in her judicial career.
