Chief Justice of Australia Sits with CJI Gavai During Supreme Court Proceedings
The Supreme Court of India today hosted Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia, Justice Stephen Gageler, who attended court proceedings as a special invitee.
During the morning session, Justice Gageler sat alongside Chief Justice of India BR Gavai and Justices K Vinod Chandran and NV Anjaria as an observer on the bench.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta warmly welcomed him and remarked that the visit was too short to fully experience the beauty of India. Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi recalled his own visit to the Australian High Court in 2015, when he was Attorney General of India.
CJI Gavai also reminisced that Justice Gageler, then Solicitor General of Australia, was present during that earlier exchange. Adding a lighter note, he shared that Justice Gageler managed to enjoy some of Delhi’s culinary delights, including the famous street food, Delhi Chaat, despite his busy schedule.
Justice Gageler is in India to attend the ongoing “Delhi Arbitration Weekend,” marking yet another chapter in India-Australia judicial collaboration.
