Courts vs Online Abuse: Delhi HC Orders Takedown of Defamatory Content on Slayy Point

The Delhi High Court has ordered the immediate removal of fake and obscene content circulating online about members of the popular YouTube channel Slayy Point.

Justice Vikas Mahajan passed the order after the Court was shown AI-generated and morphed material that was defamatory and violated the creators’ right to privacy. The Court observed that the content was clearly derogatory and could not be allowed to remain online.

Following this, platforms such as Meta, X Corp, Google, and Reddit were directed to take down the content without delay. The Court also restrained websites and users from uploading or sharing any further explicit material related to the creators.

In addition, social media companies were asked to provide basic subscriber details of the people responsible for uploading the content. Google was directed to remove related links from its search results, while the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology was asked to block the offending websites.

Considering the sensitive nature of the case, the Court allowed the identities of the creators to be masked in its order. The matter will be heard again on January 30.
