Delhi Court Frames Charges Against Karti Chidambaram in Chinese Visa Scam Case

A Delhi court has framed charges against Karti Chidambaram, a Congress Member of Parliament, in the alleged Chinese Visa scam case. The charges include criminal conspiracy and bribing a public servant.

The order was passed on Tuesday by Special Judge (PC Act) Dig Vinay Singh at the Rouse Avenue Court. Along with Chidambaram, six other accused have also been charged. One accused, Chetan Shrivastava, has been discharged from the case. A detailed court order is yet to be released.

According to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Chidambaram allegedly helped in facilitating visas for around 250 Chinese nationals after receiving illegal gratification of ₹50 lakh. The agency claims that Talwandi Sabo Power Limited paid the amount to Bell Tools Limited, which then passed it on to S Bhaskararaman, said to be Chidambaram’s aide, as a bribe for speeding up visa clearances.

Chidambaram has denied the allegations and maintained that no incriminating material was found during searches conducted against him. He was represented in court by Senior Advocate Sidharth Luthra, along with Advocates Arshdeep Singh Khurana and Akshat Gupta.
