Delhi Court Rejects Plea for FIR Against Sonia Gandhi in Voter List Case

A Delhi court has dismissed a criminal complaint seeking registration of an FIR against Congress leader Sonia Gandhi. The plea alleged that her name was entered into the New Delhi constituency’s electoral roll in 1980, even though she officially became an Indian citizen only in April 1983.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACMM) Vaibhav Chaurasia rejected the complaint on Thursday, stating, “We have dismissed it.”

The petitioner, Vikas Tripathi, argued that Gandhi’s name was added to the electoral roll in 1980, deleted in 1982, and re-entered in 1983. He contended that since her citizenship was granted in April 1983, the earlier inclusion suggested that forged documents were used, amounting to a cognisable offence. However, the court did not find merit in the complaint and refused to direct an FIR.
