Delhi HC Protects Akira Nandan’s Personality Rights From AI Deepfake Misuse

The Delhi High Court on Friday directed major online intermediaries, including Google, Meta, X (Formerly Twitter), to take action the listings which violate Akira Nandan’s personality and privacy rights through AI-generated films, images, videos and sound clips within 72 hours.

Akira Nandan approached the HC after discovering that various identified and unidentified entities have been creating, uploading, hosting and disseminating misleading digital posts, films, videos, clips, songs, including a full-length AI-generated film featuring him in lead actor role uploaded on YouTube, falsely associating him with films, cinematic projects, promotions and commercial activities that have neither been authorised nor endorsed by him.

Prior to filing the case, Akira Nandan had raised complaints with social media platforms and intermediaries. Despite the same, the listings were not removed. The Court directed the intermediaries to take down and remove the infringing content.

Senior Advocate J. Sai Deepak was briefed by advocates Himanshu Deora, Rahul Mehta, Arpit Choudhary, Krunal Mehta, Karen Koya, Dhwani Vora, B. Sidhi Pramodh Rayudu, Anupriya Alok, Shambhavi Sharma, Sanat Saswadkar, Shambhavi Bharadwaj and Divya Bhushan, of King Stubb & Kasiva (KSK).
