Delhi Traffic Police Launches Digital Lok Adalat to Speed Up Traffic Challan Settlement

The Delhi Traffic Police has introduced a new ‘Digital Lok Adalat’ application to speed up the settlement of traffic challans. The move aims to make the process quicker, more transparent and convenient for vehicle owners across the national capital.

The digital system has been developed in coordination with the Delhi State Legal Services Authority and the National Informatics Centre. Officials described it as part of a broader effort to modernise traffic enforcement services through technology-driven reforms.

Under the earlier system, many citizens experienced delays in the updation of challans and notices settled during Lok Adalat proceedings. Even after disposal, records were not updated promptly, leading to confusion and repeated follow-ups by vehicle owners.

The newly launched platform addresses these issues by ensuring real-time updates. Once a challan is settled during Lok Adalat proceedings, its status is immediately reflected in the system. This reduces waiting time and removes uncertainty regarding the final outcome.

The portal offers unified access to traffic challan data. Vehicle owners can check the status of their cases without visiting multiple platforms. The system also sends SMS notifications to registered mobile numbers, informing individuals about the disposal of their challans and notices.

Importantly, the Digital Lok Adalat has been integrated with the virtual court system. This ensures that any update made through the new platform automatically reflects across connected judicial platforms. Such integration eliminates duplication of work and reduces administrative burden.

Officials stated that the system will also minimise manual data entry. Since challan and notice details automatically appear within the application, the scope for clerical errors is expected to decline significantly. This will improve accuracy in court-related processes.

The initiative is expected to reduce the backlog of pending traffic challans in Delhi. By simplifying procedures and enabling faster settlements, authorities hope to enhance efficiency while maintaining transparency in Lok Adalat proceedings.

The system is already operational and is being used in ongoing Special Lok Adalat proceedings. During the current session, 1,92,444 challans and notices have been downloaded for settlement.

Out of these, the disposal status of 1,25,678 challans and notices has already been updated on the server. SMS alerts regarding their disposal have also been sent to the concerned vehicle owners.

With this step, the Delhi Traffic Police has signalled a clear shift towards digital governance in traffic enforcement. The Digital Lok Adalat is expected to make challan settlement smoother and more citizen-friendly in the coming months.
