Justice Ashok Bhushan Re-appointed as NCLAT Chairperson till July 2026

The Central government has re-appointed former Supreme Court judge, Justice Ashok Bhushan, as the Chairperson of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT).

The order, issued on November 7 by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, stated that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs to extend Justice Bhushan’s tenure till he turns 70 years old, on July 4, 2026.

Justice Bhushan, born on July 5, 1956, in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, earned his law degree from Allahabad University in 1979 and enrolled with the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh the same year. He practised mainly on the civil and original side at the Allahabad High Court, representing several public bodies and institutions.

He became a permanent judge of the Allahabad High Court in 2001, later served as Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court in 2015, and was elevated to the Supreme Court of India in 2016. After retiring from the apex court in 2021, he was appointed as Chairperson of NCLAT in November 2021.

During his tenure, Justice Bhushan has presided over several key matters concerning corporate law, insolvency, and competition law. His re-appointment ensures continuity in leadership at the NCLAT till July 2026.
