Kumar Mangat Pathak Gets Bail in ₹4.3 Crore Cheating Case Over Drishyam 2
A Delhi court has granted anticipatory bail to film producer Kumar Mangat Pathak in a cheating and forgery case linked to the Chinese release rights of the movie Drishyam 2.
Additional Sessions Judge Saurabh Pratap Singh Laler of Patiala House Courts observed that the ₹75 lakh in question was not paid to Pathak personally and that custodial interrogation was not essential.
The court ordered that in case of arrest, Pathak should be released on bail upon furnishing a personal bond of ₹1,00,000 and one surety of the same amount. He has also been directed to cooperate with the investigation.
The Delhi Police Economic Offences Wing (EOW) registered an FIR after businessman Rajinder Kumar Goel alleged he was cheated of ₹4.3 crore for exclusive rights to release Drishyam 2 in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
Goel claimed that Bharat Sevak, posing as an authorised representative of Pathak’s company Panorama Studios, used forged documents to strike the deal. He alleged that ₹75 lakh was transferred from Sevak’s company to Panorama.
Pathak denied personal receipt of the money, stating the amount was related to another film. He also said his company had informed Goel in November 2024 that the documents were forged.
After reviewing the matter, the court found grounds to grant anticipatory bail. Advocate Vineet Dhanda represented Pathak, while the Delhi Police was represented by Additional Public Prosecutor Mukul Kumar.
