Madras High Court Grants Anti-Piracy Protection to Mardaani 3 Ahead of Release
The Madras High Court has granted an interim anti-piracy order to protect the copyright of the upcoming Hindi film Mardaani 3, starring Rani Mukerji.
Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy directed internet service providers and cable TV operators to stop any unauthorised broadcast, transmission, or sharing of the film before its theatrical release. The Court noted that pre-release piracy can cause serious and irreversible damage to a film’s commercial value if not stopped at an early stage.
At the same time, the Court acknowledged that wide-ranging anti-piracy orders may affect the lawful business activities of intermediaries and service providers. To maintain a balance, the Court made the injunction conditional. The film’s producer must provide an indemnity to compensate respondents for any genuine business losses caused by the order.
The case was filed by Yash Raj Films, which expressed concerns that the film could be illegally telecast or circulated online before or after its release.
Mardaani 3 is the third part of the popular Mardaani franchise, in which Rani Mukerji plays a police officer. The earlier films were released in 2014 and 2019. Directed by Abhiraj Minawala, the film is scheduled to hit theatres on January 30, 2026.
Recently, the Madras High Court had also passed a similar interim order to prevent the unauthorised broadcast of the Hindi film Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos.
