Madras High Court Grants Anti-Piracy Relief to Aamir Khan Film Ahead of Release

The Madras High Court has granted an interim anti-piracy injunction to protect the Hindi film Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, produced by Aamir Khan Films. The order comes just days before the film’s scheduled theatrical release on January 16, 2026.

Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy passed the ad-interim order in a suit filed by the production house, seeking protection against unauthorised copying, broadcasting, or online circulation of the film before its release. The case was filed against various internet service providers and cable television operators.

The Court noted that if piracy were allowed to take place before the film’s release, it could cause serious and irreversible harm to the producer. In such situations, the Court observed, immediate interim protection is necessary to prevent losses that cannot be undone later.

At the same time, the Court recognised that a wide anti-piracy order might impact the legitimate business activities of some respondents. To balance both sides, it directed the producer to indemnify any party whose lawful business interests may be affected by the injunction.

Subject to this condition, the Court restrained all unauthorised broadcast or dissemination of the film until further orders.
