Sunjay Kapur’s Mother Tells Delhi HC: Priya Tried to Control His Assets Immediately After His Death

The dispute over the will of industrialist Sunjay Kapur, who passed away in June this year, has intensified before the Delhi High Court. His mother, Rani S Kapur, has told the court that instead of mourning his death, his widow Priya Sachdev Kapur immediately began taking steps to gain control over his assets.

This statement comes as part of the ongoing case filed by Sunjay’s children from his first marriage with actor Karisma Kapoor. They have alleged that Priya forged Sunjay’s will to become the sole beneficiary of his multimillion-dollar estate.

What Sunjay’s Mother Told the Court

According to submissions recorded by the court, Rani Kapur said she was never informed about the existence of any will. The matter was heard by Justice Jyoti Singh, who has listed the case for further arguments on December 3.

Claims of Marital Discord

Senior advocate Vaibhav Gaggar, appearing for Rani Kapur, told the court that Sunjay and Priya’s marriage had been troubled since May 2023, with repeated disagreements. He argued that it was “highly unlikely” that Sunjay would leave his entire personal estate solely to Priya, since he reportedly shared close emotional ties with all his children, his mother, and the larger Kapur family.

Gaggar further alleged that soon after Sunjay’s death, Priya began making efforts to take charge of his assets. It has also been claimed that she concealed substantial properties and financial holdings belonging to him.

Background

Sunjay Kapur was the chairman of Sona Comstar, a major auto-components company. He passed away in London during a polo match. He was earlier married to Karisma Kapoor from 2003 to 2016, and the couple has two children. Sunjay married Priya Sachdev in 2017.
