The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of three judicial officers as judges of the Karnataka High Court. The recommendation was made after a meeting held on April 14, marking a fresh step toward filling vacancies in one of the country’s important constitutional courts.
The three judicial officers recommended for appointment are Rajeshwari Narayana Hegde, Kedambadi Ganesh Shanthi, and Mahadevappa Brungesh. Their names have now been cleared by the Collegium for elevation to the Bench of the Karnataka High Court.
The development is significant because the Karnataka High Court is currently functioning with a large gap between its approved and working strength. At present, the High Court has 45 judges in position, while its sanctioned strength stands at 62.
