Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Permanent Appointment of Four Telangana High Court Judges

Telangana High Court 5

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended that four additional judges of the Telangana High Court be appointed as permanent judges. The recommendation relates to judges who were elevated to the High Court in 2025. The move is important because permanent appointments help bring greater stability to judicial functioning.

The decision was taken in a meeting of the Collegium held on Tuesday. With this step, the Collegium has proposed confirmation of four judges who have been serving as additional judges in the Telangana High Court. Such recommendations are a key part of the judicial appointment process in higher courts.

The four judges recommended for permanent appointment are Justice Yara Renuka, Justice Nandikonda Narsing Rao, Justice E Tirumala Devi, and Justice BR Madhusudhan Rao. Their names were considered by the Collegium for confirmation after their service as additional judges in the High Court.

In the High Court system, additional judges are often appointed for a limited period. After assessment of their work and suitability, the Collegium may recommend that they be made permanent judges. A permanent appointment gives continuity to the court and strengthens its ability to deal with pending matters more steadily.

The development is also significant because the Telangana High Court is functioning with a notable shortage of judges. The court has a sanctioned strength of 42 judges, but it is currently working with only 28 judges. This means there are still 14 vacancies in the court.
