UltraTech Cement Gets Rs 782 Crore GST Notice, Says No Business Impact

UltraTech Cement, India’s largest cement producer, has received a GST demand notice worth around ₹782 crore from the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) department in Patna. The company has clarified that the notice will not have any operational or financial impact on its business.

As per a regulatory filing, the order was issued by the Joint Commissioner of CGST and Central Excise, Patna. It includes ₹390 crore as alleged GST dues, an equal penalty of ₹390 crore, and interest of about ₹28 lakh.

The tax department has raised the demand on the grounds of alleged short payment of GST, improper use of input tax credit (ITC), and certain compliance-related issues. These claims relate to the period from FY 2018–19 to FY 2022–23.

Although the total demand is sizeable, UltraTech Cement stated that it is confident of its legal position. The company said it will challenge the order before appropriate judicial and appellate authorities.

Financially, the company remains strong. In the quarter ended September 2025, UltraTech Cement reported a consolidated profit of ₹1,232 crore, while its revenue grew 20.3% year-on-year to ₹19,607 crore, supported by healthy cement demand and better capacity utilisation.

In its filing, the company reiterated that it does not expect the GST notice to affect its day-to-day operations or financial stability. UltraTech Cement is set to announce its Q3 FY26 results on January 24, 2026. Its share price has remained largely stable this year amid overall market volatility and regulatory developments.
