Using Similar Logo Not Allowed: Delhi High Court Protects Aaj Tak Trademark Brand
The Delhi High Court has passed an interim order protecting the well-known news channel Aaj Tak from trademark infringement.
Justice Jyoti Singh granted an ex parte interim injunction, stopping a digital news platform named Charcha Aaj Ki from using a logo that closely resembled Aaj Tak’s registered design. The Court specifically restrained the use of Aaj Tak’s distinctive red, white, and black colour combination, along with similar outline borders, on websites, social media platforms, and other digital mediums.
At the same time, the Court clarified that Charcha Aaj Ki may continue to use its programme name, but without copying or imitating Aaj Tak’s trademarked visual identity.
The order was passed after Aaj Tak’s parent company, Living Media India Limited, approached the High Court. The company informed the Court that the Aaj Tak brand has been in continuous use since 1995 and is officially recognised as a well-known trademark by the Trade Marks Registry.
Living Media also pointed out that in 2025, it discovered that Charcha Aaj Ki was offering news services on platforms such as Jio TV, while using a deceptively similar logo on its website and social media accounts, which could mislead viewers.
After examining the material on record, the High Court found a prima facie case in favour of Aaj Tak and granted interim protection to prevent confusion among the public until the matter is finally decided.
