In a major effort to reduce pending litigation through consensual settlement, the Supreme Court of India has launched a nationwide initiative titled “Samadhan Samaroh 2026”, which will conclude with a Special Lok Adalat scheduled for August 21, 22 and 23, 2026.
The programme has been introduced under the banner “Supreme Court Action for Mediated Adjudication and Disputes Harmonization Across Nation (SAMADHAN).” It seeks to encourage parties involved in pending disputes before the Apex Court to explore settlement through mediation and mutual agreement instead of prolonged litigation.
As part of the initiative, litigants, advocates and all concerned stakeholders have been invited to participate in the settlement process. The campaign officially commenced on April 21 and is expected to continue over the next several months before the Special Lok Adalat takes place in August.
The notice circulated by the District Legal Services Authority, Shimla, stated that the initiative is intended to provide quicker and amicable dispute resolution. It also aims to reduce the burden on courts by promoting negotiated settlements wherever possible.
The Special Lok Adalat will deal with matters pending before the Supreme Court that can be resolved through compromise and mutual understanding between the parties. The process will operate through mediation-oriented mechanisms designed to help parties avoid lengthy courtroom battles.
Authorities have clarified that parties can participate either physically or through virtual platforms. This hybrid system has been introduced to make the process more accessible for litigants appearing from different parts of the country.
The Supreme Court has also opened registrations for those willing to participate in the initiative. Interested parties have been asked to complete the prescribed Google Form before May 31, 2026. Details regarding the process have been made available through official channels.
Lok Adalats have traditionally played an important role in reducing pendency by resolving disputes through settlement rather than adversarial hearings. The upcoming Special Lok Adalat is expected to focus on matters where parties are open to dialogue and compromise.
The initiative reflects the judiciary’s continued push towards alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, especially in cases where prolonged litigation may not serve the interests of the parties involved. By combining mediation with technology-enabled participation, the Court is attempting to widen access and improve efficiency in dispute settlement.
Further information regarding the Special Lok Adalat and the registration process has been made available on the official website of the Supreme Court.
